Proposal for Environmental Reform - Mining Act 1978

Feb 18, 2014

The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) is proposing amendments to the Mining Act 1978 to ensure that there is a contemporary environmental regulatory framework in place for mineral exploration and development activities.

Proposed amendments will reduce duplication in current approval processes for mining activities, particularly where other state and federal agencies have regulatory responsibility that is delegated to DMP.

These proposed amendments will also assist DMP to implement an objective-based and risk-based regulatory framework, improve regulatory effectiveness and remove unnecessary duplication from the approval processes.

The amendments proposed in this paper are open for public comment until 5:00pm, 2 April 2014.

Please follow te link below to the DMP website for further details of the proposed amendments.
